Local 913: Joe Grushecky & The House Rockers
2018 brings us a brand new record from Pittsburgh’s legendary Joe Grushecky and The Houserockers: “More Yesterdays Than Tomorrows”
“I blurted that out one day. I don’t know if I heard it somewhere or read it somewhere. I thought it sounded like a good song title. My son Johnny, he challenged me to write some better songs than I’d been writing. I thought, well, we’ll start with this one and see where it goes. As we collected these songs to make a set piece out of them, it seemed to be the title track. It was a theme; you’re getting older and looking back as well as looking forward. That’s the theme of the record.”
Grushecky’s son Johnny Grushecky had a hand in producing the new album and is now a full-time Houserocker. The album also features “That’s What Makes Us Great,” with guest vocals from Joe’s long-time friend Bruce Springsteen, who was a huge fan on first listen.
“In fact, he jumped on it so quick. He called me up and said “Hey Joe! I’m going start playing this!” on his radio station on Sirius, the Bruce Springsteen Channel. I said “When?!” and he said “Tomorrow!” (laughs) The first hour it went on, they played it the whole hour. Then they were playing it once an hour for about 3 or 4 weeks.”
Joe Grushecky’s new album “More Yesterdays Than Tomorrows” will be released March 31st at the Hard Rock Café. More on Joe is at his website.
