Local 913, Episode 95: Choo Jackson

Rapper Choo Jackson, originally from Vero Beach, Florida moved up to Chambersburg, PA to pursue music. Eventually, he made his way to Pittsburgh:
“Music brought me to Pittsburgh. I would come here with my friend Brendan, who went to Duquesne a couple years ago. I would come down here and peep the scene. I always knew I would move here from Chambersburg once I got a chance. Also, being signed to Mac; that gave me more reason to come out here and make connections, work with other artists and just live. Mac was one of the first people to give me an opportunity, being from a very small town like Chambersburg. He signed me to his label, but we just kinda went our separate ways [since then]. But it’s still love, it’s still everything.”
It was Mac Miller who gave him his first major opportunities, however Choo, who got his stage name from a childhood nickname (It’s from my grandma. It’s actually Choo Choo, but like Snoop Doggy Doggy makes it shorter, I just shortened it to Choo) explains who was the first to encourage him:
“My brother was the first one to notice I had some time of talent. He would make me make beats everywhere before I did anything. I would come home from football practice, he would lock the [front] door and he’d be like ‘Play this song! Before I let you in, make this song!’ He would rap, but he was pushing me towards it and he’s happier seeing me do it. We do songs together and stuff like that.”
