Local 913, Episode 78: As Ladders

The Pittsburgh band As Ladders has been releasing a handful of songs over the course of the last year as a way to get their sound on tape. Frontman Mike Berginc talked about where they made their recordings:
“All five of our songs were done at Ice House, it’s local and in Lawrenceville. It’s a small space and it has art-related tenants: visual, audio and some architectural. It’s a pretty cool building, but it was originally an ice block, for ice chests and a place to chop up ice. It was originally a real ice house.”
Their newest release contains two new songs which includes the track “Close To Me.”
“For me, I’m 100% a songwriter and I’ve been trying to figure out where I fit in the music realm. ‘Close To Me’ is very focused on lyrics which I think came through in the recording. The production approach, sounds live because it was recorded live to track. Some of the inspiration, production-wise, was Ryan Adams. We referred to Ryan Adams a bit. For me, it was about the composition and lyrics. It’s a listening song.”
