Local 913, Episode 72: The Black Six
Camden Leeds, front man for the rock band The Black Six, accidentally found himself in the city 19 years ago after attending the Art Institute in Pittsburgh. He’s lived on the North Side ever since, all the while making music including a stint with The Yards. His former band experienced degrees of successes including a spot on The Carson Daly show and opening slots for bands like Sonic Youth. After The Yards, Leeds went solo:
“I took a little break after The Yards called it quits. I needed to figure out what I wanted to do, musically. If I was gonna continue with another band, that’s always just a shot in the dark. I hit the road with some friends and do some acoustic shows. It was a good opportunity to discover where I wanted to go with music. That need for wanting to play with other people was always there.”
Leeds admits that it’s difficult to find that all important connection with other musicians when starting a new band. Luckily, he found that connection once again with the other members of The Black Six:
“We’re really tight outside of music. We live basically all around the corner from each other. We work with each other outside of music, as well; we’re all in creative fields.”
