Local 913, Episode 65: As Ladders

Although they are relative newcomers to the music scene, As Ladders has already released some very impressive music from their Yarns EP last year to their Maybe True EP released earlier this year. Inspired by classic American music like Tom Petty, The Eagle and also UK acts like Oasis and David Gray, the band got their name from a sketch drawn by front man Mike Berginc:
“I was in business school a couple years ago. Being the day-dreaming person I am, I was required to make some sketches for a class. It was a creative problem solving class. One of the sketches I drew, I titled “As Ladders.” I thought it had an interesting metaphor to it. Later on, I thought it could be an interesting project or band name.”
It’s hard to select a stand-out on their new 3 song EP since they are all so strong, but “Boomerang” seems to sum up their sound nicely:
“I was in-between jobs and living with a couple friends. I wrote that song about a year and a half ago. It has a theme of leaving somewhere, finding out a different perspective and then returning to where you were; thus, the metaphor Boomerang. Lyrically it kind of follows along that line and relates to that experience of living in a somewhat chaotic living environment for about a year.”
